Kim O'Connor got 64% of the vote to defeat the incumbent for a seat on the Ochlockonee River Soil & Water Conservation District. With 56,244 to 31,043 votes, O'Connor beat Preston Robertson who is the North Florida/South Georgia representative of The Conservation Fund.
The conservation district's five nonpartisan supervisors
serve four-year terms with no pay. Under state law, they have broad powers
to conserve soil and water resources.
O'Connor, a non-practicing lawyer active in her county Green Party, is
the second Green woman to be an officeholder in Florida.
Let's have a victory like this in Broward County in 2006.
